Frequently asked questions
Can I speak at a parish council meeting?
Meetings usually include time for residents to speak. Let the clerk know beforehand what you would like to raise, so it can be handled properly on the night. Meeting dates and papers are on the agenda and minutes page.
Who do I contact about a planning application?
Comments on a planning application go to Cherwell District Council, which decides applications. The parish council is a consultee and discusses applications at its meetings, so you are welcome to send your views to the clerk as well. See the planning page.
How do I book the village hall?
Choose "Village hall or facility booking" on the enquiry form, or email the clerk, and your request will go to the right person. Booking details and charges are to be confirmed.
How do I add an event to the village calendar?
Send the event name, date, time and place using the form and choose "Add an event to the village calendar". The clerk will check the details before it appears on the activities page.
Emailing a councillor directly
Each councillor has a council email address in the same pattern: first.last.bucknellpc@gmail.com. Replace first and last with the councillor's first name and surname. You can find the names of your councillors on the councillors page.
If you are not sure who to write to, send your message to the clerk instead and it will be passed on.
Send a message
Use the enquiry form to tell us what you need. Choose the reason that fits best, so your message reaches the right person first time:
- Village hall or facility booking
- Planning
- General enquiry
- Report a problem
- Add an event to the village calendar
You will be asked for your name, an email address or phone number, and your message. When you press send, you will see a short confirmation on screen: Thank you — we've received your message.
Write to the council
You can write to the parish council by post. The postcode is OX27 7LX. Please check the full postal address with the clerk before you send anything important, as we want to be sure your letter arrives.
When you will hear back
The clerk works part-time, so replies are not instant. Messages are usually picked up within a few days. If your enquiry is urgent, please say so in your message and give a phone number.
The clerk's working hours and a formal response time are being confirmed and will be shown here.
Things another council deals with
The parish council does not run every local service. Some problems need to go to a larger council:
- Cherwell District Council handles bin collections, planning applications and decisions, housing, and environmental health.
- Oxfordshire County Council handles roads and potholes, street lighting on main routes, footpaths, schools and social care.
If you report something to us that belongs elsewhere, the clerk will tell you where to send it. Reporting it directly to the right council is usually quicker.
Join the mailing list
Ask the clerk to add you to the parish council mailing list and you will get village news, meeting dates and consultation deadlines by email. Send your name and email address to bucknell.clerk@gmail.com, or tick the mailing list option on the form.
